After completing this course, a licensed practitioner should be able to:

• Define chemical exfoliation.
• Understand the cosmetic exfoliating procedures.
• Describe Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) role in classifications of cosmetics, drugs and over-the-counter drugs.
• Explain state regulations as pertaining to scope of practice.
• Practice standard precautions and follow Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens Guidelines and the Hazards Communication Standard.
• Use disinfection and sterilization techniques as required by state regulations.
• Identify indications and contraindications for treatment.
• Complete a client consultation form and obtain an informed consent and be able to perform a patch test.
• Perform a skin analysis and determine a treatment plan.
• Perform chemical exfoliation treatment.
• Perform pre and post treatment skin care.
• Make recommendations for homecare and follow-up.
